From Vision to Action: Invenergy’s Leadership at Climate Week NYC

Last week, Invenergy senior leaders joined representatives of private industry, government, and civil society from nearly 100 countries in New York City for two notable events at the nexus of international affairs and climate: the High-level Meetings of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and Climate Week New York City (CWNYC).
This year’s Climate Week NYC theme was: “It’s Time,” emphasizing urgency for decisive, societal action to address global climate change. The theme of the 79th UNGA General Debate was a related but broader call for inclusive action: “Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations.”
As a company committed to our own net zero future and whose work aligns to several UN Sustainable Development Goals, Invenergy’s leadership knew that it was important to show up big. Drawing on Climate Week NYC and UNGA themes of inclusive and decisive action to address climate change, our leaders participated in numerous public and private summits, roundtables, and bilateral meetings across the city focused on key obstacles and enablers of the clean energy transition.
Throughout the week, Invenergy discussed its role in meeting the unprecedented demand for clean power from data centers and AI, the criticality of transmission buildout to climate action goals, the role of energy developers in supporting green steel commercialization, the future of the Ukrainian energy sector, and tactics for combatting misinformation about renewable energy technologies.
For over two decades, Invenergy has been working with local communities to deliver cleaner, more reliable, and affordable energy and making sure the energy transition delivers tangible economic benefits. Invenergy knows this mission is only strengthened through collaboration with local communities, financial partners, government and regulatory stakeholders, utilities, NGOs, Indigenous communities, and many others.
Climate Week NYC and UNGA constitute a dynamic microcosm of this interdependent community—bringing together all who touch clean energy infrastructure and climate policy from around the world and driving solutions-oriented discussions on the most pressing issues.
As we look ahead, Invenergy is translating its Climate Week and UNGA work into real action—ensuring the clean energy transition creates good-paying jobs, workforce development opportunities, and enhanced regional growth and investment—all of which will bring us closer to achieving global climate action goals.

At Blackstone’s inaugural Decarbonization Summit, Invenergy’s CEO and Founder, Michael Polsky, delivered a keynote entitled, Capturing the Decarbonization Opportunity at Scale, moderated by Elizabeth Lewis, head of ESG for Blackstone Infrastructure Partners (BIP). Michael emphasized the economic benefits of the renewable energy sector and talked about the incredible impact of the Blackstone-Invenergy partnership, which has helped enable Invenergy’s growth in recent years.
Michael also participated in a meeting with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, convened by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Bank of America—which was especially salient as a native Ukrainian committed to supporting the well-being of the Ukrainian people and Ukraine’s eventual reconstruction. Michael shared his perspective on how the private sector could support the future of the Ukrainian energy sector.
Given Invenergy’s global footprint in the Americas, Europe, and Asia and support of international climate goals, Invenergy was also a proud sponsor and coalition member of the Global Renewables Summit, which focuses on tripling global renewable energy capacity by 2030 to help reach greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goals. Michael represented Invenergy in a Global Renewables Summit-organized roundtable focused on strengthening resilient, diverse, and sustainable supply chains, which would enable faster renewable energy deployment around the world.
Invenergy’s Executive Vice President of Public Affairs Kelly Speakes-Backman participated in several timely conversations, including an event focused on the importance of debunking and “pre-bunking” disinformation and misinformation about climate change and renewable energy. Speakes-Backman moderated an expert panel on this topic, which featured the Global Wind Energy Council’s CEO, Ben Backwell, American Clean Power Association’s Chief Communications Officer, Rosanna Maietta, Ocean Energy Pathway’s Director of Global Strategy Navneet Khinda, and the author of The Language of Climate Politics, Genevieve Guenther. Speakes-Backman also participated in a roundtable event, hosted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the Corporate Alliance for Innovation towards Net Zero (CAIN), which focused on bridging the investment gap for net-zero solutions.
Invenergy’s EVP of Transmission, Shashank Sane, also represented Invenergy at the 8th Annual Offshore Wind Transmission Conference and spoke with Catarina Rolfsdotter-Jansson of We Don’t Have Time about why there can be no global clean energy transition without transmission.
